The Llanfair Caereinion & District Show Committee is proud to announce the launch of theRichard Tudor Travel and Study Award a new initiative created to support young people from the Llanfair Caereinion catchment area who are keen to develop their skills, knowledge and experience within agriculture or horticulture sector.
The award has been established to help open doors for young people aged 18 to 30, whether they come from traditional farming backgrounds or are new to the sector. By supporting learning and travel opportunities, the fund aims to encourage ambition, innovation and professional growth, helping young people explore new ideas, gain confidence and build a future within agriculture and horticulture.
The award is named in memory of Mr Richard Tudor of Llysun, in recognition of his strong connection to the local community and his lifelong support for agriculture and rural life. The Llanfair Caereinion Show moved to the Llysun fields in 2010, and Mr Tudor was an active and committed figure within the community. In 2018, he travelled as part of his Nuffield Scholarship and was a passionate advocate for encouraging younger generations to travel, learn and broaden their experience. This award reflects his values and ensures his legacy continues to inspire others.
By creating this award in his name, the Show Committee hopes to honour Mr Tudor’s commitment to learning, opportunity and the future of the rural sector, while ensuring his legacy continues to benefit the next generation.
Recipients of the Richard Tudor Travel and Study Award will be encouraged to share what they have learned from their experiences, helping knowledge gained through the award to flow back into the wider community and inspire others with an interest in agriculture and horticulture.
Mr Lloyd James, Chairman of the Llanfair Caereinion Show Committee, said the award reflects a strong belief in supporting young people with enthusiasm and potential:
“This award is about opening doors — giving young people confidence, experience and opportunity, and helping them take their first steps towards a future in agriculture and horticulture, whatever their background.”
